Shorts are paid from a shared pool and earn a few cents per 1,000 views.

Estimate, not YouTube’s numbers

A month
$112 – $373
A year
$1,344 – $4,476

The formula

  1. Audience factor = 30% × 1 + 20% × 0.45 + 50% × 0.15 = 0.47
  2. Long-video RPM = education and how-to $3–$10 × 0.47 = $1.4–$4.65
  3. Shorts RPM = $0.02–$0.08 × 0.47 = $0.01–$0.04
  4. 80,000 long views × RPM ÷ 1,000 + 20,000 Shorts views × RPM ÷ 1,000

RPM is what you keep per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share. Only ad revenue: memberships, Super Thanks and sponsors are extra.

How it works

  • RPM is what a creator keeps per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share (55% of ad revenue on long videos, 45% of the Shorts pool).
  • Each niche has a range of RPMs, because advertisers pay more to reach some audiences (finance, business) than others (music, gaming).
  • Views from top-paying countries are worth the most. We count a middle-country view as 0.45 of one and a lower-paying-country view as 0.15.
  • Shorts earn far less per view: a few cents per 1,000.
  • Range = views × the low and high RPM for your mix ÷ 1,000. The full sum is shown next to the result.
  • Source: YouTube Partner Program terms: creators keep 55% of ad revenue on long videos and 45% of their share of the Shorts pool (YouTube Help).
  • Source: Niche RPM ranges: compiled from RPMs creators have published from their own YouTube Analytics, 2023 to 2026. Single channels fall outside these ranges often.
  • Source: Country weights: the same public reports show views from lower-income countries earning a fraction of US views. We use 1, 0.45 and 0.15 as round numbers.

Questions

Why a range and not one number?
Because nobody outside YouTube knows your exact RPM. Two channels in the same niche can differ by 3x depending on season, video length, mid-roll ads and audience. A range you can trust beats a precise number you cannot.
Why is my real number different?
Videos that are not monetised, viewers with ad blockers or YouTube Premium, ad-unfriendly topics and December versus January rates all move it. Your real figures are in YouTube Studio under Analytics, Revenue.
Where do the niche ranges come from?
From RPMs creators have published from their own YouTube Analytics between 2023 and 2026, rounded into ranges: for example personal finance and investing $8–$25, business, marketing and careers $6–$18, tech, software and gadgets $4–$12. They are typical, not guaranteed.
I am in Ghana, Nigeria or Kenya. Will I earn less?
Per view, usually yes, because advertisers pay less to reach those audiences. But the country of your viewers matters, not yours: a Ghanaian channel with many UK and US viewers earns at their rates.
Do you store what I type?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. We only count that the tool was used.
